Spey and Superior  (United States)

after a recent trip out to Washington State I have been engulfed in the art of spey casting. I would like to purchase a nice spey setup but would mainly like to use it for the anadromous species.  whats your opinion on how useful this tool would be on the shore? the primary purpose would be for the distance, style, and swinging flies.

thanks

Daniel

Re: Spey and Superior  (N/A)

Hi Daniel, we do a little bit up here in the Northland. A few guys do swing speys on the Brule and Tom Swedburg uses his spey rod on the North Shore for Loopers and Steelhead. He could let you know more about his process than i could. Most uses up in the longer rod config. has been the recent intoduction of the switch rod set up. 10'6" to 11' seem to work better up here especially since you do a down and across swing. We are currently in the process of manuafacturing our own special fly rods for this area and one of them is a 10'6" switch rod. Nice stick with a good back to it. Hoped this helps. Come on down to the shop and I can give you more info. Cheers. John
